Heads up for a fortune

We all dream of being paired up with an absolute donkey heads up. This gives you the best chance to take advantage of their poor play. However, it very rarely happens. Generally, if you can afford to play at a $0.25/$0.50 table, it is because this is your standard. Therefore, unless you get somebody trying their luck you both usually cancel each other out.

While this is generally the case, there are times you get paired up with somebody on tilt from a tournament who is trying to make some money back quickly.

I remember being in this very same situation. On a $1/$2 NL Hold’em table on stars I was up against a player who started talking about how he had just busted out of the Sunday Million near the bubble, and he wasn’t happy about it.

I checked out his profile and while he was a decent tournament player, his cash record was terrible so this was clearly something he did often. He even admitted to me that he tilted a lot on cash. In all honesty, it all seemed a bit too good to be true, but it wasn’t. He must have been telling the truth.

He was the loosest player I’ve ever seen in my life and all he kept doing was topping up repeatedly. Every hand was a raise, and he never backed down from a hand.

While this meant that he caught me out on a few occasions because I could not tell if he had 10 high or a full house, I managed to destroy him in the two or so hours we were up against one another. I think, by the end of the table I was about $1500 up.

While I would have loved to play him all night, he clearly saw sense eventually.
